An Imaginary Still Life Drawing
This drawing started out really randomly. One evening, I had an urge to create something, I knew that I wanted to work on some primary forms like sphere to render them even more realistically. I started with a circle and a cube, but to make it a more interesting composition, I added the spiral structure of the shell as well. After a bit of work on them, I decided to add the snap blade and the matchbox as well. Here is the drawing that took a day’s work:
This drawing was based on an imaginary composition. There was no real sphere, cube or shell. I had a matchbox and a snap blade. Those are the items that I used in the composition, but I added them to the composition in a particular way. My art teacher said this is a good composition, because it involves a variety of forms and positions; some objects are vertical, some are horizontal, there are size and value differences between the objects etc…
I could have made the background a bit darker, but overall, I think the drawing just feels right. I am excited to see that I am getting better, and am presenting more forms. I hope to create more still life drawings like this.
